Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Go Forth (Go4th) National Missions Conference?
Go Forth National Missions Conference is an initiative to mobilise churches in Singapore to the call of the Great Commission. It started in 2001 when several Christian leaders from various denominations and mission agencies came together to organise (organize) the conference to mobilise (mobilize) Singapore Christians and churches for missions. Instead of several missions conferences, organised (organized) by the various denominations, there will be one for all. In love and unity, Go Forth 2002 came into being.

Go Forth NMC is truly an interdenominational and national event for missions mobilisation (mobilization).
The theme for Go Forth NMC 2008, which has been scheduled for 16-19 July 2008, will be “God’s Glory in the East: Our Asian Missions Challenge.”

2. What is the goal of Go4th?
The goal of Go4th NMC is to mobilise (mobilize) churches in Singapore for missions.

3. Who runs Go4th?
Go4th is run by a group of volunteers whose heart is for missions. These volunteers are from various denominational and missions agencies backgrounds. Go4th does not belong to one particular denomination. Its agenda will always be mobilisation (mobilization) of churches in Singapore for missions.

4. How often does Go4th happen?
Go4th NMC is organised (organized) every three years (2002, 2005, 2008…).

5. How is Go4th financed?
Please see attached budget. Most of the income will come from the registration fees, offerings from the night meetings and donations to be raised. We hope that you will share with us in the cost of running this national missions event.

6. How many people are you expecting to attend Go4th 2008? Who is it for?
We are aiming for 3,000 conference registrants. We saw nearly 3,000 in both 2002 and 2005. This event is being organised for both the young and old, Christians of all ages. In 2008, we are particularly targeting the tertiary students.

7. Why are we using Suntec SICEC? Isn’t it too expensive?
Yes, it is true that hosting an event in Suntec is a megabuck business! However, we had searched high and low and come to the conclusion that it is still the best choice. In selecting the venue for 2008, we had considered: location and ease of transportation, workshop rooms, sound system, chairs, food outlets, and other logistic requirements.

8. What kind of budget are we talking about?
The budget is $600,000.

9. What can we do to make this missions event a success?
PAP – Pray and Participate! Encourage your church people to do likewise. Can we request you to consider making Go4th 2008 your church’s missions emphasis event for 2008.

There are still opportunities for many volunteers to be involved, e.g. ushers, helpers for the registration, helpers for the children’s programme and logistic help. We would like to urge you to register early and if possible, in groups, by setting up registration table in your church. This will help us tremendously with the cash flow and organizational logistics.

10. Why is GoFest part of GoForth?
GoFest Asia (GFA), a missions and outreach conference initiated by Youth With A Mission (Singapore), first organised in June 2006 and next scheduled for July 9th to 12, 2008. When GoForth NMC 2008 announced its dates, 23rd to 26th July, 2008, a dilemma was presented to the YWAM leadership and GFA staff. God spoke to them about embracing unity, specifically the passage from John 17 and Psalms 133. After much prayers and deliberations, GFA expressed their obedience to the Lord by laying down its name to embrace GoForth NMC 2008. When GoForth NMC 2008 accepted GFA’s request to open its application to the global church community and to have outreach as its expression of missions, the two events have become one for 2008, and will now be known as GoForth NMC 2008, truly in the spirit of GoForth, unity of the Body of Christ.

11. When will registration start?
In January 2008 – via the web: www.goforth.org.sg and also by using the brochures that will be distributed to you. Payment will be possible by electronic means (via the web) or cheque. All cheques should be made payable to: NMC and sent to: SCEM, Raffles City P O Box 1052, Singapore 911736.
